Abstract: This dissertation covers the ways in which mainstream theatre can be adapted to be accessible and inclusive towards both audience members and performers with sensory issues in a way that immerses the senses. The focus of the dissertation is thus on individuals with autism and those on the neurodiversity spectrum. To highlight some of the issues involved, reference is made to two theatre practices, mainly applied theatre and sensory friendly performances, and how these approach and process theatre-making for a more inclusive experience. As such, the discussion also engages sensorial dimensions, that is, the different ways in which senses are received by a person on the spectrum versus a neurotypical person. Furthermore, this dissertation reflects on some of the initiatives organised by the National Theatre of Scotland as a case study because it is sensitive to issues related to neurodiversity and has used applied and sensory friendly practices to give a platform to a group that is often ignored.
