Abstract: Manon Lescaut is an opera in four acts composed by Giacomo Puccini between 1889 and 1892 to a libretto by Luigi Illica, Marco Praga and Domenico Oliva. The English version is written by Mowbray Marras. The opera was first performed in 1893 in Turin, at the Teatro Regio. Set in 1721, during the reign of French King Louis XV, Manon, a beautiful young girl, is destined for a convent, but she elopes with the Chevalier des Grieux. The lovers are traced to Paris by Manon's brother Lescaut and De Bretigny, who also loves Manon.
