Abstract: Episcopal Consecration.
The Consecration of the now Right Rev. W. J. Whelan as Bishop of Aureliopolis, and Coadjutor to the Vicar Apostolic of Bombay, took place at the Carmelite Church of St. Teresa, Clarendonstreet. The Rev. Gentleman had for many years belonged to this religious community, and had distinguished himself alike for his piety and the zeal with which he alwa-ys endeavoured to advance the interests of his order and the spread of Gospel truth. And to no order, not even excepting the illustrious Benedictines, has the world been more indebted than to that of the Discalced Carmelites, who for ages have devoted themselves as well to literature. and the fine arts, as to religion and works of self-denial; and who have renounced the world for the purpose of administering to the wants and sorrows, and providing for the education of' the poor.
