| Abstract: | The South-East Regional Committee (SERC) in the past year became signatory to the UN Ten Principles. The application was signed by the 15 Councils after unanimous agreement during the Regional Committee meeting of the14th July 2014. The submission to the UN General Secretary included four steps in engaging with the UN Global Compact; (1) Implement and promote the ten principles of the UN Global Cities Compact in the management and administration of the region through the application of an Action Plan based on the said principles and studies based on the Circles of Sustainability which are currently underway; (2) Have a dedicated sustainability action plan or holistic regional plan that incorporates the ecological, economic, political, and cultural dimensions of the region and which will target key development and regeneration actions focusing on the region’s sustainability; (3)Acknowledge participation in the Global Compact to the citizens of the region and promote the initiative and the ten principles within the region’s sphere of influence through the application of new governance systems and democratisation in planning and design in project development; (4)Engage in Global Compact Local Network activities and support it through the studies and projects implemented but also through benchmarking and best practice initiatives. |
