| Abstract: | An armistice was signed with Turkey on 30th October 1918 and during November, Allied troops moved into the Dardanelles and Constantinople. Following a period of internal unrest, in March 1919, the government of Ferid Pasha started arresting the organisers and persons of influence. Many of these persons came under custody of the British and kept as war prisoners. Some of these ended up in Malta, and made use of the postal service in Malta, which they were given the privilege to use for free. This Virtual Display previews the stamps, cancellations and lettersheets that were used for postal service of these internees. |
