Abstract: This Report discusses two themes: Maltese countryside legislation and the constitution of a Countryside Fund. In so far as the first part of this report is concerned, the report is divided into three sections: the first section deals with Maltese law regulating the countryside; the second section consists in a case study of a number of foreign jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom, which have adopted legislation granting access to the countryside, and in the third section the report draws conclusions and recommendations for legislative change in Malta on access to the countryside issues. The second part of the Report deals with the Countryside Fund and is also divided into three sections: the first section refers to extant Maltese Environmental Law; the second section discusses various options which can be resorted to in the creation of a Countryside Fund whilst section three argues in favour of the preferred option.
