| Abstract: | Exploring the experience of young adults going through a drama/theatre process in a local non-formal setting This study explores the experiences of a group of young people who engage in drama tuition within a non-formal local setting and the skills gained through such experiential learning. The study used a qualitative approach to give an insight into these young people’s lived experience. Their narratives were drawn through semi-structured online interviews, lasting a maximum of 30 minutes. Seven participants, all attending drama tuition, were recruited (aged between 13 and 18). Participants were mainly females, with only one male taking part in this study. The young people’s narratives revealed how beneficial drama tuition is for young people and how they find drama classes a safe place to express themselves freely. Drama tuition in a non-formal setting also provides young people with the opportunity to create friendships. Additionally, the participants highlighted the importance of drama tuition with regard to their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. |
