Abstract: The aim of this part of the Regional Socio-Economic Development Plan for the South of Malta is to present a review of the proposals emerging from the Technical Reports reproduced in Part Ill.
The proposals were reviewed from different perspectives such as their impact on the sewerage, water, energy and the road networks, tourism, agriculture, environmental health and on the social and ecological aspects.
This part of the Regional Socio-Economic Development Plan includes a representative sample, effectively about seventy-five percent of the total number of the proposals listed in Part I. This does not imply that the remaining proposals were not subject to the same scrutiny. In fact, each and every proposal was examined by an interdisciplinary group of professionals and priority ranking was recommended, based on a set of criteria (section 1.5.0 refers).
The inclusion or otherwise of the review of a proposal does not correspond to the degree of importance or priority ranking of the respective proposal. It would have been superfluous to further assess what has already been thoroughly exposed elsewhere and to include the review again would be repeating what is included in Part Ill of the Regional Socio-Economic Development Plan.
The reviews of the proposals included are not, and should not read as, an assessment of the respective proposals. Where problems are listed within a given proposal, they are only guidelines and should never be read as exclusive and exhaustive.
Reference should be made to the endorsed inset site plans (whenever appropriate).
