| Abstract: | This dissertation project investigates the potential of using digital tools, specifically filming, computer-generated imagery, and animation, to engage younger generations in understanding and appreciating a significant historical event from Malta during World War II. The effectiveness of computer-generated imagery, visual effects and animation in existing films, documentaries, games, and game cutscenes depicting historical events and the role of editorial decision-making in historical portrayals were also analysed. The outcomes of this dissertation include a comprehensive understanding of Operation Pedestal, an assessment of the effectiveness of digital mediums in the quest of engaging younger generations, insights into the role of editorial decision-making, and a trailer that serves as a potential educational and engagement tool. This dissertation contributes to the field of digital tools and their application in historical education. |
