| Abstract: | Naḥal Tseʾelim (Wadi Seiyal) originates in Arad and terminates in the Dead Sea, about 4 km to the north of Masada. Its last segment consists of a deep wadi that stretches for about 7 km from west to east, before it eventually drains into the sea. On the north side, the wadi is joined by Naḥal Badir at the west end and by Naḥal Harduf (Wadi Maradif) halfway along its bank; further east, on the south side, it opens into a small gorge with a southerly trajectory. Many caves and crevices dot the cliff-faces of this network of wadis, and some of them have yielded artifacts of the Chalcolithic and Roman periods. Structural remains dating to the same periods as well as the Iron Age were identified at the top of the escarpment and further afield. |
