| Abstract: | This dissertation explores the practicalities and challenges of transitioning libraries from transactional to relational models during conflicts, using the Russo-Ukraine war context as a case study. Library roles in conflict areas require further attention and research to establish how communities can utilise them for their benefit. The current study sought to investigate the strategies adopted by Ukrainian libraries in response to the war and analyse how these organisations tried to adopt a relational role amidst the military conflict. The secondary data collected in this study were analysed using the method of thematic analysis. The results of this study provide valuable information about the role of Ukrainian libraries in protecting the nation’s cultural heritage, reconceptualising the national identity of Ukraine, sheltering refugees, facilitating the collection and distribution of humanitarian aid, providing high-quality information management services, mobilising support, and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships. The dissertation offers valuable insights into the specific conservation, digitisation, and information management strategies adopted by these organisations. Furthermore, it also illustrates how these organisations changed their service in line with the principles of a relational model. The findings of the dissertation are valuable both from a theoretical and practical standpoint since they not only address an evident research gap but also provide practical recommendations for Ukrainian libraries on how to facilitate the adoption of a relational model amidst the war. |
