| Abstract: | Malta is the most densely populated country in Europe. With a land area of only 315 square kilometres, it has a population of over 360,000. A further one million holiday visitors annually add to this congestion. Industrial activity, tourists and its increasingly affluent inhabitants have combined to place its natural resources under considerable pressure. |
