Education in Malta. Suggestions to the select committee of the Council of Government appointed to inquire into and report upon the organization of the education department

Abstract

GENTLEMEN, Having always taken the deepest interest m the cause of Education in Malta, I have witnessed with a great deal of satisfaction the appointment of a Commission composed of such enlightened elements as the present one; and in the earnest hope that no sentiment of boldness may be ascribed to me, I beg to be permitted to lay before you, for consideration, my humble views on this vital subject. I have been a student myself in the Primary Schools and Lyceum many years ago, and I have obtained my degrees at the Malta University; but, since that date, I have had opportunities of following my professional studies abroad, and whilst acting as examiner and professor in the Faculty of Medicine, of observing somewhat closely the unsatisfactory results of our system of instruction; and these circumstances, coupled with the desire of being useful to my countrymen, have induced me to approach the Commission on this occasion.
