Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to explore the perspectives of the police officers and social workers on their joint collaboration investigation on child sexual abuse cases. This collaborative investigation is further investigated in terms of the efficiency and the impact it leaves on the minor. Moreover, I, as the researcher of this study, also delved into the challenges encountered during this collaborative process, which seems to hinder the effectiveness of the investigation. This study is a qualitative study, as semi-structured interviews were conducted with six professionals; three previously employed as Child Protection social workers, and three police officers making part of the vice squad. Five major themes emerged from these interviews. The first theme presents the perceptions of collaboration, focusing on the organisational structure, the professional relationships, and the balancing of justice and victim care. The second theme focuses on the professional preparation and training, while focusing on the police recruitment and training, and the social work knowledge and education. The third theme focuses on the relationship with the victim. The fourth theme focuses on the strengths experienced in the collaborative work, while highlighting the joint forces and multidisciplinary approach, and the expertise and authority. The fifth and final theme presents the limitations and areas for improvement, while emphasising on the structural and logistical constraints, and challenges in communication and organisation. This research study provides several recommendations with the aim of filling the gaps for an efficient collaboration and a better service delivery to the victims of child sexual abuse. This research indicates that collaborative investigation is an asset. Nonetheless, this study highlights certain issues experienced by these professionals.
