| Abstract: | To this day, many children continue to experience traumatic events. In instances where children face a heightened risk of abuse or maltreatment and their legal guardian fails to protect them, the State intervenes to ensure their protection. This may be in the form of an order stipulated under Chapter 602 of the Minor Protection (Alternative care) Act, whereby the state or any other party authorised by the Court assumes responsibility for the minor’s care and upbringing. This paper examines the experiences of four young adults who lived in various residential homes before relocating to a home provided by FSWS. Many young adults still experience difficulty finding stability or a sense of belonging due to multiple transitions and caregivers, which can hinder their ability to form healthy relationships and make significant life decisions that may impact their future negatively. A qualitative study was conducted, employing a multiple-case design. The participants, all adults, were interviewed using a semi-structured approach. Gender did not affect their participation in the study. Data was collected through adapted thematic analysis to respect the participants past experiences and struggles. This study also emphasises the importance of allowing individuals to share their voices, reclaim their narratives, and advocate for change, leading to future recommendations for homes. |
