| Abstract: | Most idyllic photographs of Malta of yesteryear that grace so many books and which featured on so many postcards at the turn of the last century were taken by a man who had a noteworthy history and who ended up on Malta's shores quite by chance. 'Richard Ellis' is a household name in Malta. This article will describe the historical circumstances that brought Richard Ellis to Malta and the output of three generations of photographers who have changed the photographic destiny of these islands. It will also discuss the unique finding aids structure of this archive and current initiatives aimed at preserving such heritage for future generations. |
