Abstract: Catholic. - In our last conversation you seemed very anxious, when you found out there could be only one true religion, to know which that religion was, and you said that nothing on earth should prevent you from joining it. Protestant. -- did not seem more anxious than I really felt, I do assure you, and I again declare that, if I was once clearly convinced that I had found the true religion, neither parents, nor kindred, nor friends should keep me from it. I love them much, but I value the eternal happiness of my soul more. If I should act against what I know is right merely to please them, what can I expect, when, we all stand trembling together before the judgment-seat, but the dreadful sentence passed on those who obey man rather than God....
