Abstract: For many centuries, the hospitals run by the knights permitted only male patients, and the pressing need for a place where women could turn in times of illness had been acknowledged for quite some time. Nevertheless, little progress was made in this regard. In light of this situation, Caterina Scappi's generosity was called upon, and she utilized her funds to create the inaugural hospital in Malta dedicated solely to women—a groundbreaking advancement.
