Abstract: In this article, journalist Giovanni Bonello explores the practice of granting pardons during Malta's colonial era. The grand masters of the Order previously exercised this privilege with considerable freedom, and although the governors representing the British monarchs maintained this practice, it was done with somewhat more restraint.
