Abstract: Gender portrayal in the media and on screen, gender representation in the media industry as producers of content and as decision makers, gender and media literacy, and research are key sites that require action to address gender imbalance in the media sector. To sustain a healthy democracy, we are mandated to address many key issues in media practices. One of those issues is to ensure that media organisations are gender- balanced, and to produce gender-balanced content. We are mandated to balance the media in terms of portrayal and representation in and on the Media, and a significant key to that success is a focus on Media Literacy.
