Some remarks on a copy of Vassalli's Mylsen bound with a pamphlet containing the Alfabeto Maltese

Abstract

The reason for describing this particular volume of the Mylsen by Vassalli stemmed from an informal discussion with Olvin Vella when he asked me what I thought of the Alfabeto Maltese pamphlet that was inserted and sewn to it. The main question that arose from our discussion was whether the Alfabeto Maltese was intended to be bound with the 1791 publication soon after it was published or whether it was added at a later stage. If it was bound to it in the first place, there would be a stronger case for the attribution of the Alfabeto to Vassalli. This short essay puts together some observations made on this volume together with another four publications of the Mylsen and a loose copy of the Alfabeto which are included here by way of comparison. A table with all five volumes is annexed to this essay.
