Abstract: Sir, I have to acknowledge your letter, dated Malta the 28. December 1837, and to assure you that I shall be most happy to forward the objects of the inhabitants of Malta, expressed through their General Committee, as far as they desire to obtain reforms in their institutions, calculated to promote 'the' welfare of the people of Malta. I am well aware that Malta has suffered, along with the other Colonies of the British Empire, by the misrule which has so long existed in those distant possessions, and it is matter of deep regret to see the erroneous and mistaken system which has been acted upon, alike injurious to the Colonies as to Great Britain.
