Abstract: This article explains why the old Santa Marija parish church in Birkirkara should be restored. Built in the early 1600s by Maltese architect Tumas Dingli, the church is a rare example of beautiful, early church design that still shows the skill and elegance of its time. Even though it was abandoned, this actually helped protect many of its original features, which are now hard to find in other churches.
