Abstract: This article tells the story of Giuseppe Maurin, a talented 18th-century naval architect from Malta who designed several important warships, including galleys and large vessels for the Order of St John. Born in Valletta in 1754, he studied under top professors and trained in shipbuilding in Toulon, France.
