Abstract: This article, published in Experimental Dermatology, explores the potential link between the NOD2 gene and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). HS is a chronic inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous unit, and while its genetics are still being studied, some variations in the NOD2 gene have been associated with the disease. However, the pathophysiologic role of NOD2 in HS is still unclear. The article emphasizes the need for further research to better understand the genetic mechanisms and shared genetic etiology between HS and IBD.
