| Abstract: | This article looks at the historical importance of Fort Ricasoli, built to protect the entrance to the Grand Harbour in Malta. The site was chosen for its strategic value after repeated threats to the area, especially following the Great Siege of 1565. The article explains how the fort became part of a wider system of coastal defences designed to control access by sea. It also highlights the ongoing need to preserve what remains of this important historic site. |
