| Abstract: | The Makers of a Parish Church and its Community is a historical account of the parish of Ħaż-Żabbar, Malta, focusing on the lives and contributions of its Parish Priests from 1616 onward. The first priest, Fr. Angelo Pontremoli, set a compassionate tone, and over the centuries, 26 priests followed, each leaving a unique mark. These men led significant religious and architectural developments, including the construction and expansion of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace, the arrival of sacred statues, and various church enhancements. Parish Priests were central figures in the community, seen as spiritual leaders and moral guides. Among the most influential was Fr. Joseph Zarb, who served from 1943 to 1975 and was instrumental in modernizing the parish, publishing books, and spearheading major cultural projects. The document honors the dedication of these priests, who shaped both the church and the identity of the local community. |
