Abstract: In May 2020 the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer protection, in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, announced that it was investing €5 million euros in the local hospitality and tourism workforce through a scholarship scheme. This initiative aimed at providing individuals working in this sector, or those who aspired to be part of it, to enrol in programmes which led to full or partial qualifications. The focus here was to provide such workforce with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competence to contribute towards the recovery, rethinking and revitalisation of the local Tourism industry in a post-covid environment. Such objectives were also in line with the Malta Tourism Strategy. [excerpt]
