Abstract: The Maltese Islands are home to numerous churches and chapels scattered in both rural and urban areas. While large churches and parishes tend to be more attractive to locals and tourists alike, chapels still have their stories to tell and deserve to be treasured and appreciated as part of the Islands’ heritage. The Maltese chapels are characterized by a richness of detail, in both art and architecture and are often enhanced with detailed patterns of human habitation (Borg, M., 2014). These architectural jewels gradually left their mark on the Maltese rural areas as wayside chapels, while, through the years, more chapels were built in a more urban environment. [excerpt]
