| Abstract: | Gender-related equality may represent forms of controversy if not discrimination. Nowadays, employees seek to reach their maximum potential to fulfill their employment expectations and climb the career ladder. Many people in the hospitality industry struggle to achieve certain goals and roles solely because of their gender. Some even struggle with motivation and commitment issues due to an impenetrable barrier that prevents them from progressing in their career path (Dashper, 2019). According to UNWTO (2011), females are twice as likely to be hospitality and tourism employees compared to other industries. However, work in the various sectors remains segregated by gender stereotypes, with the majority of females being employed in lower-status positions that attract lower pay and opportunities for career progression (Mooney & Ryan, 2009). This can also be applied to males applying for jobs in the hotel industry. Due to such discrimination, the industry is missing out on the abilities, visions, and passions of many different people of all genders who could make successful leaders. [excerpt] |
