Abstract: During the British period, Malta was granted self-rule in 1921. Eventually, carnival became more organised and a committee was appointed to oversee festivities. Valletta became the epicentre of carnival, from float making to costumes, to dances and revelry, traditions handed down from father to son, implying that this had a lasting effect on Valletta’s character and society.
