Abstract: This research introduces a design procedure based on thermo-electromagnetic coupling. This coupling of these two important design procedures allows the thermal calculation to be performed during the sensitivity analysis iteration. In this way, machine designers can make direct adjustments to parameters that have an effect not only on electromagnetic performance but also on the thermal performance of the machine. The results benefit from applying the fast, analytical matrix model, an advanced variant of the classical lumped parameter thermal network (LPTN). The matrix model reduces computational costs and operating times, thus allowing it to be integrated into the electrical machine sensitivity analyses.
