Abstract: This contribution explores the aesthetic role of linguistic repetition in Anis Chouchene’s poem “May Peace Be upon You” (salāmun ʿalaykum). The primary objective is to examine the multifaceted layers of repetition in the poem while deciphering its underlying thematic and stylistic significance. Methodologically, this study adopts a thematic approach by logically dividing the analysis into three themes: unity and diversity, fear and ignorance, and introspection and transformation. The thematic analysis reveals how Chouchene mobilises the aesthetics of repetition as a stylistic device to evoke a sense of contemplation, empathy, and resonance with the reader. Chouchene’s skilful use of repetition in his politically charged verses transcends language barriers, creating a universal bond among the readers. This study provides insights into the poet’s verses within the context of modern Tunisian literature. It also deepens our comprehension of how repetition functions as a rhetorical tool in contemporary Arabic poetry, acting as a bridge to evoke resonance among a broad spectrum of readers.
