Abstract: The phenomenon of negative thermal expansion has been extensively documented in many materials including ice, certain oxides, tungstates and a number of zeolites. This property is desired in engineering applications where such ‘negative’ materials are used as components in order to manufacture composite materials with a tailor made coefficient of thermal expansion.
