Abstract: La Prigione di Edimburgo is a melodramatic opera in three acts. Giovanna, driven mad by the death of her own child, steals a sleeping infant. The Duke of Argyle's son Giorgio, a smuggler and Ida's secret husband, reunites with Giovanna but only briefly as he is forced to flee due to the arrival of soldiers. Ida ends up being accused of having fathered an illegitimate child and murdering him, and when her child is not found, she is taken to prison. [Excerpt.]
