| Abstract: | “There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.” This was Daphne Caruana Galizia’s final statement on her blog. On October 16, 2017, just 10 minutes after posting it, the investigative journalist was assassinated by a car bomb explosion less than a hundred meters from her home in the rural hamlet of Bidnija. Her murder brought intense media attention to Malta and its institutions, its political system, and the government then headed by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. |
