| Abstract: | Crispino is a poor cobbler in Venice, who, in despair, tries to end his life. A fairy intervenes and makes him a successful doctor, giving him the power to foresee life or death for his patients. With sudden fame and wealth, Crispino grows arrogant until the fairy teaches him humility through a frightening vision of death. In the end, he learns his lesson, reconciles with his wife Annetta, and embraces a wiser, more grateful life... [Excerpt.] |
