Abstract: Insects not only play a significant role in the ecological process of nature but since pre-historic times have also formed a part of the human diet. Many species of Lepidoptera provide benefits to humans. Silk cocoons produced by the last instar larvae of certain species yield high-quality silk, which can be processed and exploited in the textile industry, resulting in income generation. Moreover, the wings of some butterflies and moths are used for decoration purposes. [excerpt]
