| Abstract: | LEPROSY is a chronic infectious disease caused by microbacillus lepre, discovered by G. Hansen, which affects the skin, soft tissues, nasal mucosa, eyes and nerves, causing severe disfigurement. The name is derived from the Greek word "lepra", which means "scaly". In the past leprosy was considered a highly contagious and incurable disease and sufferers became social outcasts. |
