Abstract: This chapter explores how Mediterranean cultural and linguistic influences have shaped the Maltese language and identity, while highlighting Malta’s global contribution to ocean governance through Arvid Pardo and the International Maritime Law Institute. The Maltese language is presented as a unique synthesis of Semitic (Arabic), Romance (Sicilian/Italian), and English strata. The author advocates for integrating ocean literacy and transdisciplinary pedagogy (combining poetry, science, and culture) into Maltese education, using Dun Karm’s poem Żagħżugħ ta’ Dejjem as a case study to enhance cultural and scientific awareness. The sea is framed as both a historical bridge and a platform for epistemological reflection.
