| Abstract: | Welcome to CMC 2012, the Fifth International Conference on Concept Mapping, and to Malta. A group that joins for the fifth time from all over the world to share research and experience, alternating between Europe and the Americas, shows maturity and a sense of community. We welcome into our community participants from new countries that had not previously taken part in the conference. Once again we have a strong program that covers a variety of topics resulting from the Program Committee’s tough time selecting the papers that would be presented orally and as posters from a large number of high quality submissions. We thank the members of the Committee for their effort and hard work. And of course, the conference would not take place if it were not for all the authors that are willing to share their work with the concept mapping community. Outstanding invited speakers complement the high quality of papers: Joseph D. Novak, who will join us via videoconference, Ian Kinchin, Jaime Sánchez and Robert Hoffman. Panels that we expect will generate a lot of discussion among the participants complete the Program. The Local Organisation Committee has made a wonderful job not only with the organization of the Conference, but also making sure we feel at home in Valletta and that we have a great time through the superb social programme. Finally, we thank the sponsors whose support was crucial in making the Conference a reality. [Preface by Alberto J. Cañas] |
