Abstract: This study aimed to explore the extent and impact of domestic violence on children in Malta. as well as to provide an understanding of the nature and extent of its impact. In order to reach this aim, three main objectives were established, whereby the researcher aimed to analyse the holistic repercussions of domestic violence and any long-term effects that might occur, identifed the social and cultural elements that contribute to domestic violence and lastly, evaluated the effectiveness victim and support services have to minimise the harm that domestic violence causes to children. The methodology chosen for this dissertation was a qualitative approach, as it was suitable for understanding the profound impact Domestic Violence has on children, especially within the Maltese context. Drawing on this approach, the researcher incorporated insights through semi-structured interviews with professionals working in law enforcement, child psychologists, child protection, and victim support services. Findings reveal that domestic violence remains significantly under-reported, often hidden within the home, and that children exposed to such violence, whether directly or indirectly, face a wide range of effects. This study also highlights how cultural norms, gender roles, and economic pressures contribute to both the continuation of abuse and the complexity of its impacts on child victims. Furthermore, while support services in Malta have evolved, the research reveals significant gaps in resources, training, and early intervention strategies. In conclusion, key recommendations include a more coordinated child-centred approach to support and intervention, and future research focused on demographic disparities and the hidden dimensions of domestic violence.
