| Abstract: | This dissertation investigates the transforming experience of pushing outside my comfort zone, as seen through the lens of art—specifically, illustration and color. At its core, this research looks into the learning results of pushing artistic boundaries and going into new areas of self-expression. Over the course of thirty days, I conducted a personal ethnographic research, documenting my emotions three times per day, translating them into a color palette, and then into illustrative works in which colors and objects represent my emotional journey. This study's methodological approach is extremely introspective, focusing solely on myself by incorporating emotion into color and illustration. This investigation is guided by a thorough assessment of the literature, which includes journals, articles, and videos, and provides a foundational understanding of the relationship between emotions and artistic expression. Unexpected problems, such as the delay in capturing emotions, strengthened the project by presenting a diverse range of human experiences and emphasizing its authenticity. This dissertation not only depicts the process of artistic experimentation and self-discovery, but also examines the resilience, vulnerabilities, and insights obtained. In essence, this work is a candid depiction of personal and artistic development, inspiring others to embrace self-expression and push their creativity beyond traditional boundaries. It exemplifies art's ability to navigate the complexities of emotions and experiences, with the goal of inspiring others to begin on their own journeys of self-discovery. |
