Abstract: The article presents two alternative proposals for the redesign of City Gate and its surrounding areas, aiming to restore the historical character of Valletta while addressing modern traffic and access needs. Drawing on the architectural legacy of the Knights of St John, it outlines ideas for monuments, gates, public spaces and infrastructure intended to harmonise new development with the city’s historic fabric.
