Abstract: This article reflects on the Santa Marija Convoy of August 1942 and its decisive role in saving Malta during World War II. It discusses Operation Pedestal from both the Axis and Maltese perspectives, highlighting how the arrival of a few surviving ships ensured Malta’s survival despite heavy losses. The author also explains how the convoy became closely linked in Maltese memory with the feast of Santa Marija and later key moments in the defeat of Fascism.
