Abstract: This project investigates how creative storytelling, and visual literacy can promote healthy eating habits among children aged six to eight. The research question explores how narrative-based learning, supported by visual elements and interactive activities, can positively influence children’s dietary choices. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, beginning with a literature review on child nutrition, educational storytelling, color psychology, and visual communication. Informal interviews with parents provided insight into real-world eating challenges, while consultations with a child nutritionist and a visual storytelling expert guided the content and design of the final output. The project centers around What’s in the Box?, a children’s picture book that follows a young boy’s transformation toward healthier eating through his friendship with a new classmate. A small recipe booklet complements the story, offering families simple, healthy recipes that encourage parent-child interaction and reinforce the book’s messages. The methodology included iterative development, practical experimentation with illustration techniques, and informal feedback from educators to refine the book’s visual and narrative elements. Findings suggest that embedding health education within an emotionally supportive story framework, combined with vibrant color transitions and interactive elements, increases children’s engagement and receptiveness to healthier eating habits in a playful and nondirective way. The project demonstrates the potential of combining storytelling, design, and interactive learning to create lasting behavior change among young readers.
