Abstract: This empirical study examined the extent to which Maltese public service employees utilise different sources of evidence when making important decisions. Using a census-based sample, 185 employees (scales 2–7) completed an online self-administered questionnaire. Results showed frequent use of organisational data, practitioner expertise, and stakeholder input, but limited use of scientific literature findings. Utilisation varied with education level and significantly predicted vigilant decision-making. The study recommends that the Institute for the Public Service makes scientific research more accessible and relevant to public servants and to promote systematic evidence use to support thoughtful, vigilant decisions.
