| Abstract: | The article explores attitudes to morality, sexuality and marriage in Malta during the late Middle Ages, challenging the idea of a uniformly strict and pious society. Drawing on archival records, it shows how illicit relationships, prostitution and illegitimacy were widespread, especially in urban areas. The piece places these behaviours within the harsh social and economic conditions of the time. |
