| Abstract: | Robert Louis Stevenson, the Scottish novelist - best known for books which we treasured in our childhood like Treasure Island- was a remarkable man, despite being seriously sick for most of his life, most probably with bronchiectasis; he was a prolific writer and traveller till the very end, dying in Samoa aged 44. His masterpiece the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde explores the interplay between a kind respected doctor Dr Henry Jekyll and his alter ego the murderous Mr Edward Hyde. One of the most prominent interpretations of this novel remains the examination of the duality of humanity, expressed as an inner struggle between good and evil. [excerpt] |
