Abstract: Cancer of the uterine cervix (cervical cancer) is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. It is staged using the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system that is based primarily on findings detected on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as well as Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT). The FIGO staging system helps guide treatment decisions, which may include fertility-sparing or non-fertility sparing surgery for early disease and chemoradiotherapy for more advanced tumours. It also serves to monitor the efficacy of treatment. [excerpt]
